I was asked to make a white oak entertainment center/tv console/etc. I was very excited since I have been wanting to build a natural white oak project and it finally happened (2 more pieces coming after too)
Materials and Initial Processing
I want go into much detail on the process, but it all started with a bunch of 4/4, 5/4 white oak. 2 sheets of 3/4″ WO ply and 1 sheet of 1/4″ WO ply. The drawer boxes were made with 1/2 maple ply. Plus some drawer slides, hinges, and pulls.
I milled and ripped a bunch of the oak down for face frames and panel frame, then resawed some for panels and drawer fronts. Before any of that happened I had to choose the lumber for the top.
Then I processed the plywood, added dadoes, pocket holes, and glued up the carcass. Not too long after that I built and glued on the face frame.
Side Panels and Doors
The side panels were typical frame and panel construction with the resawn panels floating. I applied a light coat of green transtint/water and a coat of poly before gluing up the side panels and doors. Then I glued the side panels onto the carcass and to the face frame.
Sizing Doors, Drawers, Final Install
After the doors and drawer fronts were made, I trimmed them down to final size. Then worked on the drawer boxes. Lots of sanding and then two coat of polyurethane. Delivery and this TV console was finished.
